The Motorola Timeport L7089 was the world's first tri-band cellular phone on the market. With the supported frequency bands of 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz , it can be used in Europe , in parts of Asia and in the USA . This mobile phone was marketed by Motorola as a business phone and was first sold in 1999.

Furnishing

The cell phone has a size of 158 × 45 × 24 mm³ and a weight of 108 grams. It has a monochrome green LC display with four lines that has a resolution of 96 × 54 pixels and has eleven unchangeable ring tones. The further equipment consists of an infrared interface , a serial RS-232 interface and the option of connecting a headset . The external antenna can be unscrewed and replaced with another one. In the upper left corner there is a power / status display in the form of a flashing LED . In addition to the usual, relatively large buttons, it has a quick menu button and a mailbox button on the front. On the left side there are two volume buttons and the phone book button, on the right side is the button for recording. Messages and sections of conversation up to three minutes long can be recorded with the mobile phone. The key lock is activated by pressing the * and # keys at the same time. The mobile phone also supports voice control with which programmed telephone numbers can be dialed.

The travel charger supports 110 V with 60 Hz and 220 V with 50 Hz and has European and American plug types , a table charger is also available.

Assessments

The mobile phone was rated good (1.7) by the test magazine of the Stiftung Warentest 12/1999 issue . There were 20 mobile phones in the test, 17 of which were assessed as good and three as satisfactory. The mobile phone was also rated positively in six other magazines, including Connect Magazine . In many test reports in Internet forums , the phone was particularly noticeable due to its relatively cumbersome operation and menu navigation as well as the lack of other common features such as calendar, alarm clock, pocket calculator or currency converter, whereas the good reception performance and voice quality were positively mentioned.
