Björn Thoroe (born October 9, 1984 in Kiel ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ) and was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein state parliament in the 17th electoral period from 2009 to 2012 . He was nominated by his party as a candidate for Kiel's mayor election on October 27, 2019 and received 9.1% of the votes cast.

Björn Thoroe is one of the state managers of Die Linke Schleswig-Holstein . He completed his studies with a bachelor's degree in sociology and history. In November 2002 he joined the PDS and has been a member of its district executive in Kiel since 2003, which he headed as district spokesman from 2007 to 2008 after the merger with the party Die Linke. From 2008 to 2010 he was a member of his party's regional executive committee.

From 2005 to 2007 Björn Thoroe was a member of the state council of the youth organization 'solid - die socialist Jugend' for Schleswig-Holstein and in 2007 at the federal level he was solidly involved in the merger of various youth associations for left-wing youth .

Björn Thoroe ran as a direct candidate in the Bundestag election 2005 in the Bundestag constituency of Kiel and received 4.1% of the first votes.

After the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 2009 , Thoroe initially received no mandate because, according to the official final result, his party missed a sixth mandate by four votes. In a recounting of votes requested by his party in the Husum-Eiderstedt constituency in January 2010, 41 votes were now counted for the left instead of the original nine votes. Therefore Thoroe was able to move into the state parliament. The FDP deputy Christina Musculus-Stahnke lost her mandate as a result.

In the state elections in Schleswig-Holstein in 2012 , he ran for fourth place on the state list of the left. The left failed with an election result of 2.3 percent at the five percent hurdle and Björn Thoroe left the state parliament.
