The Motta SpA is a former Italian food manufacturer whose brands continues today in Italy for bakery products for Bauli Group and ice cream for the Nestlé continue to exist Corporation.

history

It was founded in 1919 by Angelo Motta in Milan as Angelo Motta pasticciere . Motta's first product was Panettone , the Milanese cake specialty. A second production facility was opened in 1925 and an associated shop in Via Carlo Alberto, also in Milan, in 1928. Other stores followed in Corso Buenos Aires, Piazzale Baracca, Viale Corsica, Largo Carrobbio, Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi and Piazza del Duomo . In 1937 the company was converted into a stock corporation and in 1955 it was expanded to include ice cream production.

After the boom in the post-war period, the industry experienced a crisis at the end of the 1960s. In 1968, the Società Meridionale di Elettricità (SME), part of the state Istituto per la Ricostruzione Industriale , acquired 35% of Motta's capital. After 50% of the capital of Alemagna SpA was also taken over by the SME in 1970 and Alivar in 1974 , the companies were restructured. Motta and Alemagna merged in 1975 to form Unidal (Unione Industrie Dolciarie e Alimentari); the companies' motorway restaurants were outsourced to the Autogrill joint stock company founded in 1977, together with those of Alivar , and Motta's ice cream division to the Tanara joint stock company in 1976 , which became part of the Italgel joint stock company , which in turn was a subsidiary of Unidal. The losses of Unidal led to the liquidation of the company in 1977 and the takeover of the profitable parts in the newly founded Sidalm (Società Industriale Dolciaria e Alimentare Milanese). After further losses, Sidalm was integrated into Alivar in 1986, the sales outlets (through the subsidiary Esco) into Autogrill. Finally, Alivar was dissolved in 1991, the companies restructured and parts of them privatized. Italgel with the Gruppo Dolciario Italiano (which, among other things, owned the baked goods division of Motta) were sold to Nestlé in 1993 and merged into Nestlé Italiana in 1995.

Motta's ice cream production remained the property of Nestlé; to this day, Motta is a national Italian ice cream brand for Nestlé. In 2009, the family-owned medium- sized company Bauli acquired the pastry division and its brands from Nestlé.
