Moth arguing

The moth Streithausen is an Outbound High Middle Turmhügelburg (moth) directly on the small Nister on the north edge of Streithausen in Westerwaldkreis in Rheinland-Pfalz .

The castle was the older seat of the Lords of Nister, who can be traced from 1117 to 1187 and at that time already sat at Nister Castle near today's Marienstatt Abbey . They probably owned the rule of Nister as a fiefdom of the Thuringian landgraves. Fragments found at the Motte Streithausen suggest that it was used in the 10th or 11th century.

The 4 meter high and 23 meter diameter tower hill and the up to 2.40 meter deep and 4 to 5 meter wide moat have been preserved from the former castle complex . The former "Streithäuser Hof", which Johann von Nister sold to the Marienstatt Abbey in 1287, belonged to the castle .

The castle site was archaeologically examined in 1905 and 1977. The investigations indicate a use between the 10th and 15th centuries. In 1905 remains of wood and clay buildings were found, as well as broken vessels, iron fragments and a bronze button.
