geography

course

The Kleine Nister rises southwest of the Stegskopf ( 654.4  m ) on the Daaden military training area in the High Westerwald . From here it first flows to the southwest, before turning east of Nisterberg to the west. Their route leads them south past Nisterberg and north past Lautzenbrücken . It then flows through an extensive forest area in the northeast of the Dreifelder Weiherland in the Oberwesterwald, passing the Langenbacher and Altenklostermühle before it passes Mörlen and Nauroth in the south .

As a result, the brook flows north of the Nauberge and reaches Luckenbach , Atzelgift and Streithausen . Here, in the southeast of the Nisterbergland, small nests and (large) nests are already approaching within a few hundred meters. The further path of the Kleine Nister leads through Limbach to the Lützelauermühle , to flow into the Nister south of Heimborn . The confluence of the small in the large nest is colloquially referred to as the "German corner of the Westerwald".

  1. Water code number , in Germany the official river code number with a separator inserted after the prefix for better readability, which stands for the small Nister receiving water common to all .

environment

Water condition

The Kleine Nister is one of the coarse material-rich, silicate low mountain streams (type 5). The water structure quality is mainly given as moderately to significantly changed. Some short sections are classified as slightly changed. Above Nauroth, heavily modified sections predominate on a good 4 km stretch of river. The water quality is given consistently as low pollution.

Traffic routes

The valley of the Kleine Nister is largely free of public roads. Only between Heimborn and Atzelgift do the district roads K 19 and 20 accompany the stream on the slopes above the valley floor.
