Stephan Godmand Motzfeldt "Múte" Hammeken (born May 13, 1922 in Nuuk ; † January 25, 2009 ibid) was a Greenlandic pastor , teacher and librarian .

Life

Motzfeldt Hammeken was the son of assistant Kristoffer Ole Abel Hammeken (1881–1949) and his wife Ane Sofia Esther Berthelsen (1888–1957). Through his mother he was a great-grandson of Rasmus Berthelsen (1827-1901). On December 26, 1945, he married Maritha Louise Susanne Jensen (1924–?), Daughter of the hunter Kasper Sebulon Gustav Jens Jensen (1890–?) And his wife Kirsten Karen Bolette Antoinette Motzfeldt (1890–?).

Motzfeldt Hammeken graduated from Grønland's seminarium in 1942 and was then employed as a catechist in Kangeq . After two years he became a teacher and catechist in his hometown of Nuuk, where he stayed until 1960. From 1953 he was also provost helper. In 1960 he was appointed pastor in Qeqertarsuatsiaat and in 1962 he was transferred to Paamiut . In 1976 he was appointed Greenland Pastor in Denmark. In 1984 he returned to Nuuk, where he retired in 1987. Nevertheless, he worked almost continuously as pastor of Nuuk until 1991.

From 1944 to 1957 he was the head of the library in Nuuk. From 1945 to 1955 he was treasurer of Greenland's People's Information Association and from 1956 to 1960 he was secretary at Grønlands Forlag. From 1951 to 1958 he was a member of the child welfare organization and at the same time election officer in the local and regional council elections. From 1963 to 1971 he was chairman of the information committee in Paamiut. He worked on the translation of the Old Testament into Greenlandic, was the Greenlandic representative of the Danish Bible Society and sat on the committee for Den Grønlandske Kirkesag.

Motzfeldt Hammeken was a holder of the Dannebrog Order and received the Nersornaat in gold on June 21, 2001 . He died in the Nuuk Retirement Home in early 2009 at the age of 86.
