Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is a successor to the action role-playing game series Mount & Blade from 2020. It is being developed by the Turkish developer TaleWorlds Entertainment .

You play a character with whom you can create an army of soldiers from different factions in the world of "Calradia". With this army you fight for any faction against all other factions on the world map.

Gameplay

In the game you start with a figure you have created yourself, with which you can travel through the fictional world of "Calradia". With a click you can then navigate your own character around the world. For example, if you click on an object (town, village or army) and your own squad collides with the desired object, the view is changed and you can select different options depending on the object. If you collide with an opposing squad and a fight ensues, you switch to a third-person perspective (optionally also first-person) and you fight with your army against that of the opposing general.

You can also increase your reputation by winning tournaments, defeating other princes or completing certain missions.

Monetary system

The money system in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord should be designed clearly. You make money by providing services, and you lose money by spending on services. The services for making money are listed below.

possibility definition
battle At the end of each battle, the opponents are looted. The money then goes to the player. You can also get items and take prisoners.
trade You can now use these items for trading or yourself. Goods are sold in towns and villages. Cities often have a higher budget to buy up goods. The player gets money by selling.
Quests You get money for many quests. For example, by collecting taxes, lending out soldiers or avenging a prince.
competition There is prize money by winning a tournament. You can place bets on yourself that will increase the prize money in the end.
Owning business Shops can be bought in cities. Shops automatically buy raw materials and sell produced goods, the profit or loss from this is passed on to the player.
caravan Caravans can be sent out in cities. Caravans are led by a companion of the player. They travel from city to city, automatically buying and selling goods at a profit, but they also cost upkeep.

Recruit troops

The basic part of the game is building an army. In order to be able to recruit troops, you have to talk to certain "notables" in villages or towns. They are something of an intermediary between the player and the soldiers. The notables offer the player different classes of soldiers (archers, foot soldiers and cavalry) in different ranks for recruitment. The rank of available soldiers depends on the player's relationship with the notable. The AI princes also recruit their troops in this way, so that the player competes with them for the recruits.

Quest system

By completing quests in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord you can gain reputation, morale and money. Furthermore, you improve the relationship with the respective quest giver, which can lead to a new friend in the later process. Quests are obtained by asking princes and important people in villages and cities.

Replay system

The replay system is intended to make it easier for video creators to produce and publish good videos. With the replay system you can decorate fights with a tracking shot. First of all, you specify how much time the fight will take for the video and then you specify where the path for the tracking shot should be.

Game world and factions

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is arranged before its predecessor and also takes place in the fictional land of Calradia, although the maps differ. There are six cultures in total. These cultures mostly have a few sub-factions. The sub-factions all have some similarities and differences.

Sturgies

They are traders and adventurers from the far north. They have strong infantry fighting in shield wall formation . The representations are based on the Middle Ages of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Finland. The sub-factions of Sturgia are the Nordlands, the Skolderbroda and the Sons of the Forest. The northerners are said to have a Scandinavian look. The Skolderbroda are an armed brotherhood. In addition to waging war, the Sons of the Forest also engage in agriculture.

Vlandia

Vlandia is based on the Central European Middle Ages. Because of the strong cavalry, the Vlandians are believed to be the ancestors of the Kingdom of Swadia from Mount & Blade.

Khuzait

The Khuzait are an equestrian people living in the eastern steppe of Calradia. Their descendants are likely the Khergites from the Khergite Khanate.

Battanien

The Battanier are characterized by the excellent use of the local forests. There they specialize in long archers and in warfare in the forest. They are located between Vlandien, the Western and Northern Kingdom, and Sturgia.

Aseries

The Aserai are a desert people. They farm in oases on the great southern lake. Her strength lies in her riding lances. They are the ancestors of the Sarranids.

The Calradian Kingdom (southern, northern and western)

The Calradian kingdom is divided into three individual kingdoms and is located in the middle of Calradia and borders on all other factions. Each of the three rulers claims to be the rightful ruler of the entire empire. The warriors of the Calradian kingdom specialize in armor and have very skilled archers.

Development history

The game was announced in 2012, development began in 2013. There is also a developer blog that has had a weekly entry since mid-September 2017. The early access version of the game was released on March 30, 2020.

Modding

According to the developer Taleworlds , the modding in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord should be easier than in any other Mount & Blade part.
