Mount Atwood is a 1180 m high mountain in Marie Byrd Land in West Antarctica . It rises on the western edge of the Clark Mountains in the Ford Ranges .
Scientists from the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) discovered it in 1940 during flights from their western base and named it after the American geologists and geographers WW Atwood Sr. (1872–1949) and WW Atwood Jr. (1906–1949) who jointly conducted glaciological studies at Clark University .
