Mount Dow is a 1680 m high mountain in the southern part of South Georgia . It rises 1.5 km west of the northern foothills of Mount Carse on the southern flank of the Nowosilski Glacier .
The South Georgia Survey mapped it as part of the 1951-1957 survey campaign . The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1958 after the American whaling historian George Francis Dow (1868-1936), author of the book Whale Ships and Whaling: A Pictorial History of Whaling During Three Centuries from 1925.
