The Mount Hood Railroad ( AAR reporting mark : "MH") is a railway company founded in 1906 with headquarters in Hood River (Oregon) , United States . The operating radius is Hood River County in northern Oregon . The railway company operates tourist passenger traffic (four-hour journey with a travel companion and other events); to a small extent freight traffic . The track width is 1435 mm .
Route network
The line begins in Hood River with a connection to the Union Pacific Railroad and initially runs 4.8 km parallel to the Hood River up to a hairpin - in the United States only five hairpin turns are still in operation. After changing direction, the line runs south through the parishes of Pine Grove, Odell and Dee to Parkdale station, where the tracks end. The total distance of the MH is 22 kilometers.
The Mount Hood Railroad Linear Historic District was added to the Oregon National Register of Historic Places on January 24, 1994 .

- Trains
Three different trains are used: The Excursion Passenger Train consists of two passenger cars (closed), a dining car , a passenger car (open) and a caboose . The Dinner Train consists of 4 dining cars for dinner and events. The Dome Lounge was built in 1954 by the Budd Company and was used on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway . It was only acquired by the MH in 2008.
