The Mount Huntington is a 3731 m high mountain in the Alaska Range in Alaska (USA). The mountain was named by the Browne-Parker Expedition in 1910 after Archer Milton Huntington (1870–1955), chairman of the American Geographical Society .
geography
The mountain is located in the west-central section of the Alaska range, 12.5 km south-southeast of Denali in Denali National Park . The West Fork Ruth Glacier , a source glacier of the Ruth Glacier , flows east along the north flank . The south and west flanks form the nutrient area of the Tokositna Glacier .
Ascent history
The first ascent of Mount Huntington was achieved in 1964 by a French expedition led by Lionel Terray from Ruth Glacier over the northwest ridge. On May 25, 1964, Jacques Batkin and Sylvain Sarthou were the first to reach the summit. The following day, the remaining participants, Lionel Terray, Jean-Louis Bernezat, Paul Gendre, Maurice Gicquel, Marc Martinetti and Jacques Soubis also reached the summit.
