Mount Lanyon is a 493 m high and expansive mountain in the East Antarctic Mac Robertson Land . In the Prince Charles Mountains, it rises 18 km south of the Taylor Platform . In the south the mountain is cut through by a glacier fed by the polar plateau . On its east side, a moraine area extends over a length of 13 km.
Aerial photographs of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions from 1956 and 1960 were used for mapping. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named him after John Lanyon, an officer on duty at Wilkes Station in 1965.
