history
In 1879 , after a rebellion , the head of the Baphuthi , Moorosi, sought refuge on a mountain about 1,820 meters high north of today's town. British troops from the Cape Colony and Basotho besieged the mountain for a long time in vain, which could only be conquered after many unsuccessful attempts. Moorosi's death triggered the Gun War . The place was named after the mountain and the former ruler.
In the 2015 national elections , the Mount Moorosi constituency was the only one in which the Basotho National Party won a direct mandate - through party leader Thesele 'Maseribane.
