The Mohale's Hoek district is one of ten districts (districts) of the Kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa .

geography

The district is located in the south of Lesotho. It is named after its capital Mohale's Hoek .

Its size is 3530 km², its population 165,590 (as of 2016).

The Mohale's Hoek district is partly in the Lowlands of Lesothos, partly in the Highlands ( Maloti Mountains ).

It borders in the north on the Mafeteng district , east of it on the Maseru district , in the northeast on the Thaba-Tseka district , in the southeast on the Qacha's Nek district and in the south on the Quthing district . To the northwest of the Mohale's Hoek district is the South African province of Free State and to the southwest is the South African province of Eastern Cape . Thus the district is surrounded by numerous other regional authorities.

Localities

  • Mohale's Hoek, founded in 1884, named after Moshoeshoes I's younger brother , Mohale, is the only town in the district
  • Thaba-Tšoeu (German: White Mountain ), with remains of petrified trees
  • Maphutšeng, mission station , with fossilized dinosaur footprints
  • Ha Tšepo, place on the site of the former main town Old Hoek
