The Berea District is one of ten districts (districts) of the Kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa . The district is named after the Berea Mission, founded in 1843 on the plateau of the same name near the state capital Maseru . This mission station is again named after the Greek city of Berea, today Veria , which was visited several times by the Apostle Paul .

geography

The 2222 square kilometer district is located in northern Lesotho. With around 260,000 inhabitants, it is the most densely populated district and one of the most populous districts in the country.

The neighboring districts are Maseru in the south, Thaba-Tseka in the east and Leribe in the north. On the west side, the district shares a short border with the South African province of Free State . The capital is Teyateyaneng , TY for short.
