Mount Murchison is a 565 m high, dome-shaped and mostly snow-covered mountain in the East Antarctic George V country . It rises 18 km southwest of the head end of Buchanan Bay on the western flank of the Mertz Glacier .
The mountain was discovered during the Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911-1914) under the direction of the Australian polar explorer Douglas Mawson . This named him after Roderick Murchison (1848-1921), a banker from Melbourne and financier of the research trip .
