Mount Northampton is a 2465 m high mountain in the north of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Victory Mountains, it rises from the center of the ridge immediately east of the Bowers Glacier .
The British polar explorer James Clark Ross discovered him in January 1841 during his Antarctic expedition (1839-1843). Ross named him after Spencer Joshua Alwyne Compton, 2nd Marquess of Northampton (1790-1851), then President of the Royal Society .
