Mount Suribachi ( Japanese 摺 鉢 山 Suribachi-yama , German 'Kegelberg' ) is a 258 m high and cone-shaped hill on the Prince Harald Coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises in the south-central part of the Skarvsnes peninsula .
Japanese scientists, who descriptively named it in 1973, mapped it on the basis of measurements and aerial photographs of the Japanese Antarctic expedition carried out from 1957 to 1963. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated this into English in 1975.
