The Mount Whyte is a 2,990 m (according to other sources 2983 m ) high peak in the Canadian province of Alberta .
It is located in Banff National Park near Lake Louise . It owes its name to Sir William Methuen , who named the mountain in 1898 after William Whyte , a representative of the Canadian Pacific Railway .
The ascent of Mount Whyte is usually combined with that of Mount Niblock , with Mount Whyte having a much higher degree of difficulty.
