At around 2050 m, Mount Wilbye is the highest mountain in the Lassus Mountains in the north-west of the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises up in the southern part of the mountain range.
The British geographer Derek Searle of the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey mapped it in 1960 using aerial photographs taken by the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947-1948). The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1961 after the English madrigal composer John Wilbye (1574-1638).
