The Democratic Patriots Movement ( Arabic حركة الوطنيون الديمقراطيون, Al-Watad , French Mouvement des patriotes démocrates , abbreviation MOUPAD ) is a Marxist and Arab nationalist party in Tunisia . It was founded in the course of the "Jasmine Revolution" and registered in January 2011. Its general secretary was Chokri Belaïd , who was shot dead on February 6, 2013.

The Democratic Patriots Movement supports a parliamentary system , the balanced development of agriculture and light industry, and campaigns against the exploitation of the Tunisian working class .

history

Founded in 1981, the movement was not legalized until 2011, after the Tunisian Revolution in 2010 . In the 2011 elections , the Democratic Patriots Movement won a seat in the Constituent Assembly - Mongi Rahoui from the Jendouba constituency .

In October 2012, the party formed an alliance, the Popular Front , with the Tunisian Labor Party , the Socialist Democratic Movement , the Green Party , the Iraqi and Syrian- led branches of the Ba'ath Party, and other parties that see themselves as progressive parties and independents.
