Chokri Belaïd ( Arabic شكري بلعيد, DMG Šukrī Balʿaid ; * November 26, 1964 in Djebel Jelloud ; † February 6, 2013 in Tunis ) was a Tunisian lawyer and politician. He was a former member of the "Haute instance pour la réalisation des objectifs de la révolution, de la réforme politique et de la transition démocratique" ("High Authority for the Achievement of the Goals of the Revolution, for Political Reforms and Democratic Transition") and Secretary General the Mouvement des patriotes démocrates party (Movement of Patriotic Democrats) . The left opposition politician was considered a strict opponent of the Jebali government and advocated the separation of state and religion.

Belaïd was shot dead in front of his home on February 6, 2013 while trying to leave his home district of El Menzah in northern Tunis. This murder sparked a large number of protests. Several offices of the ruling Ennahda party were vandalized.

In August 2013, Prime Minister Ali Larajedh accused the Salafist organization Ansar al-Sharia, among other things, of being behind the killings of Chokri Belaïd and Mohamed Brahmi .
