Historical parties
At the time of the overthrow of the authoritarian head of state Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011, the following parties were represented in the Tunisian Chamber of Deputies :
- Constitutional Democratic Collection (RCD) - Ben Ali Unity Party, dissolved in March 2011
- Movement of Socialist Democrats (MDS) - Social Democrats
- People's Unity Party (PUP) - Pan-Arab Socialists
- Unionist Democratic Union (UDU) - Pan-Arab nationalists
- Ettajdid movement - post-communists, absorbed in April 2012 in the social-democratic way .
- Social Liberal Party (PSL) - Liberals
- Green Party for Progress (PVP) - ecologists
The Progressive Democratic Party was not represented in parliament due to election boycotts, but was legal . It went up in April 2012 in the Republican Party.
