The Republican Party (الحزب الجمهوري, DMG al-Ḥizb al-Ǧumhūrī , French Parti républicain ) is a secular social-liberal party in Tunisia , which is located in the political center . It emerged on April 9, 2012 from a merger of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), Afek Tounes , Tunisian Republican Party, Al Irada, Al Karama, the Bledi Movement, the Party for Democracy and Social Justice and other groups and independent people. The party is led by General Secretary Maya Jribi , who was previously General Secretary of the PDP. With 11 out of 217 seats it was the largest opposition party in the Constituent Assembly of Tunisia. The party left the Union for Tunisia , but is still part of the National Salvation Front .

After the founding meeting, nine members of the PDP challenged the leadership's vote and temporarily suspended their party membership. These nine MPs founded the Democratic Alliance on November 8, 2012 .

In the first regular election under the new constitution in October 2014, she received only one seat. Her candidate Néjib Chebbi was eliminated in the subsequent presidential election with only 1.04% of the vote.
