History and Development
Initially conceived as a vehicle family with the types 4 × 4, 6 × 6 and 8 × 8 and built in the versions 4 × 4 and 6 × 6, the concept of a vehicle family with different weight classes was the basis.
What was special about the Puma family was the ability to swim , the high payload, the high maneuverability and the ability to operate in ABC-contaminated areas. On the 6 × 6 Puma, the wheels of the first and third axles are steered and allow a tight turning circle, the wheels of the middle axle are not steered. There is a propeller behind each of the two rear wheels. The engine is housed in the front. The grenadiers can leave the vehicle through a wing door hatch in the roof behind the tower or through a large wing door at the rear of the vehicle, this door forms the vertical rear section.
The Puma delivered important results for the Mowag Shark 8 × 8 armored vehicle . A prototype of the Puma, which took part in various tests in Switzerland and in demonstrations on the Gurnigel , in Brugg and the Oerlikon-Bührle factory premises in Ochsenboden in Unteriberg , is now in the Swiss Military Museum Full . The Puma never went into series production.
