Mporokos Mountains

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mporokosoberge form the northern edge of the Bangweulu Basin in the extreme north of Zambia .

Like the basin, the mountains are made of sandstone ( Mporokoso group ). To the north of them lies the Mweru Wantipa Lake and to the south the Bangweulus Marshes spread out. The Mporokosoberge are almost uninhabited and overgrown with Miombo forest. In the rainy season they are as good as impassable. The sediment bottom immediately softens and forms sludge. In the south of the mountains, the Kalungwishi River offers a whole series of impressive waterfalls: the Lumangwe Falls , Chimpepe Falls , Kabweluma Falls , Kundabwiku Falls and Mumbuluma Falls of the (western) Luangwa tributary, which can be distinguished from the great Luangwa .
