Mr. Long (龍 先生) is a Japanese film from 2017 . Directed by Hiroyuki Tanaka (known as Sabu).
content
The Taiwanese Long is a member of the local mafia and is sent to Japan for a murder assignment, although he doesn't speak a word of Japanese. Although his mission fails, he is able to escape the captors badly injured, as Kenji distracts them by his appearance at the crucial moment. Kenji asks the killers to give him back his wife, who later turns out to be Lily.
Long reaches a dilapidated settlement on the outskirts of the city with great difficulty and, with his injuries, retreats to an abandoned house. The boy Jun discovers him there and first brings him the water necessary for survival, then bandages and medication. Finally he throws a few clothes and vegetables from the neighbour's garden at his feet. Long begins to make himself at home in the run-down atmosphere. His central tool is the knife, with which he now transforms the ingredients brought by Jun into delicious soups.
Jun's mother Lily also went through a lot and became addicted to heroin. When Long gets to know her better through Jun, he uses brutal methods to force her to go into cold withdrawal. With the help of many neighbors, who are downright delighted with Long's cooking skills, he can build a simple middle-class life and sells Taiwanese noodle soup in front of the temple. But then the past catches up with him again ...
criticism
“What distinguishes Sabus Film from its western relatives are the genre breaks:» Mr. Long «begins as a glamorously photographed bloody night piece in the high-rise canyons of Taipei and Tokyo, and then fades over into the deliberate realism of art house cinema."
