Muhammad Bāqir al-Majlisī ( Arabic محمدباقر المجلسی, DMG Muḥammad Bāqir al-Maǧlisī , modern Persian محمدباقر مجلسی Mohammad Bāgher Madschlesī , DMG Moḥammad-Bāqer Maǧlesī ; born In Isfahan in 1616 ; died 1698 ibid) was a well-known Shiite scholar during the Safavid era . In 1678 him the Safavid king appointed Sultan Husayn to Scheichülislam (supreme religious authority in Islam) in the Persian Empire. Since then he has had the honorary title of "Allamah", which is only given to scholars who are among the most knowledgeable in their field.

He wrote more than 100 books, both in Arabic and Persian, and was considered "one of the most powerful and influential Shiite scholars of all time". Bihar al Anwar , a collection of more than 100,000 traditions of the Prophet Mohammed and his Ahl al-bait, is considered to be his life's work .

He is buried in the Friday mosque in Isfahan .
