Muhammad III. (Cordoba)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Muhammad III. ibn Abd ar-Rahman al-Mustakfi ( Arabic محمد بن عبد الرحمن المستكفي, DMG Muḥammad b. ʿAbd ar-Raḥmān al-Mustakfī ; Life dates unknown) was Caliph of Cordoba from 1024 to 1025 . Muhammad III. was installed after the overthrow of Abd ar-Rahman V by the rebels as the new caliph in Cordoba . Since he appointed a weaver as a vizier and restricted the power and privileges of the aristocracy, he was soon forced to flee by a revolt.

For the next six months, Cordoba was ruled by a council of aristocrats, who now proposed the caliphate to the Hammudid Yahya al-Mutali . However, he stayed in Málaga and only had the city occupied by Berber troops (see: Caliphate of Córdoba ). Only in 1029 moved with Hischam III. the last Umayyad caliph in Cordoba.
