Muhammed Magassy

Muhammed Magassy (* 1977 in Sabi ) is a Gambian educator and politician .

Born in Sabi, Magassy grew up with his uncle and grandmother in Neteboulou in the Tambacounda region , Senegal. From 1984 to 1989 he attended elementary school in Netteboulou before moving to CEM Junior Secondary School and then to Mam Cheikh Mbaye Senior Secondary School in Tambacounda. Before his political career, Magassy worked as a teacher.

Muhammed Magassy initially belonged to the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), but because incumbents of the constituency Momodou Sellou Bah was nominated for election as a candidate of the APRC, Magassy tried in the election to Parliament in 2012 as an independent candidate in the constituency Basse in to compete in the Basse Administrative Area . With 62.53% he won the constituency in front of Momodou Sellou Bah (APRC). Before the 2016 presidential election, Magassy was part of the leadership of the 2016 Coalition , an opposition coalition that helped Adama Barrow to win the election .

In the 2017 parliamentary elections , he ran again as an independent candidate in the same constituency. With 33.23% he was able to regain the constituency in front of Muhammadou Saiba Sanyang (UDP) and Omar Sompo Ceesay (APRC).
