Muhammad Mertek

Muhammet Mertek (* 1964 in Espiye , Turkey ) is a Turkish teacher and author .

Life

From 1983 to 1987 he studied German and pedagogy at the University of Ankara , then between 1987 and 1992 German, pedagogy and Nordic studies in Münster . Since 1992 he has been teaching Islamic religious instruction and Turkish at the Sophie Scholl Comprehensive School in Hamm.

Muhammet Mertek has been actively and committedly committed to the dialogue between people, cultures and religions in society for years. In lectures at schools and universities as well as in associations and church communities, he deals with topics such as integration and migration, upbringing and education, language and identities, the foundations of Islam and Salafism, dialogue and cultural coexistence. He has also written several publications on these topics.

From 1998 to 2013 he was editor-in-chief of the magazine "Die Fontäne". In addition, he supervised the publication of books by other authors as a lecturer and editor . Mertek is a co-founder of the Education and Environment Association and the Institute for Islam and Democratic Education in Hamm.

As a lecturer for Islamic didactics, he introduced teaching students to the theory and practice of general didactics and the developing didactics of Islamic religious instruction at the Leopold-Franzens University Innsbruck (Austria) in 2013.

Since November 3, 2018, Mertek has been a board member of the Interreligious Labor Office (INTR ° A).
