The Mujunkum Desert ( Kazakh Мойынқұм Moyınqum; Russian Муюнкум, Мойынкум Mojynkúm ) is located in Central Asia in the south of Kazakhstan .

It stretches from the Tschüi river in the north to the Qaratau and Kyrgyz mountains in the south. Their altitude varies between 300 m in the north and up to 700 m in the southeast.

There is a continental desert climate. Temperatures in January reach values ​​between −6 and −9.6 ° C. In July they are 26 ° C.

Typical plant representatives are: Saxaul bushes, tragacanth , mugwort and sour grass plants . Calligonum and Agropyron grow in depressions .
