Mukasch Abdraiev

Mukasch Abdrajew , Kyrgyz Мукаш Абдраев , Russian Мукаш Абдра́ев (born May 5, 1920 in Kyzyl Asker , today in Sokuluk district , Kyrgyzstan ; † May 18, 1979 in Frunze ) was a Soviet composer and music educator of Kyrgyz origin.

Life

Mukasch Abdrajew lost his parents at the age of two. The brother of his mother Scharschen Termetschikow (1896-1942), a well-known Kyrgyz comedian and folk singer, took him into his household. After the family moved to Frunze in 1933, he received violin lessons at the music school in the class of Al Konopko. He received lessons in music theory from the conductor and composer Pjotr ​​Fjodorowitsch Schubin (1894–1948). In 1935 he was sent to school in Moscow with a group of gifted children . After five years of teaching in a violin class, he moved to the national class of the Moscow Conservatory , studied with Heinrich Litinski (1901–1985) and Vladimir Fereand attended a course in folklore . It was here that he wrote his first compositions: Мелодия для скрипки [melody for violin] and songs based on texts by Toktogul Satylganov (1864–1933). After a year he was evacuated to Frunze due to the war, as he had not been drafted for military service because of a leg injury. There he was assigned to an agitation group of artists led by Musa Baetow (1902-1949). Members of the group were also Abdylas Maldybayew , Askar Tulejewitsch Tulejew (1920–1963) and Akhmat Amanbayev Amanbayev (1920–1964). Together they wrote the musical comedy Kint kimmi in 1943. During this time he wrote his own songs. Ой, алтын, and Селкин белеги were quite popular. In 1944 he returned to the Moscow Conservatory and continued his studies in music theory and composition. After six years, he graduated from Sergei Wassilenko's composition class in 1950 as the first Kyrgyz with a higher composer education . He then returned to Frunze and taught from 1950 to 1958 at the School of Music and Choreography. Since 1960 he has been a lecturer at the Department of Music at the Kyrgyzstan Pedagogical University. In 1964 he was awarded the honorary title Заслуженный деятель искусств Киргизской ССР [Honored Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR]. In 1967 he became head of the chair for theory and composition at the Kyrgyz Art Academy and chairman of the composers' association of the Kyrgyz SSR . He was elected a board member and secretary at the fourth and fifth congresses of the Union of Composers of the USSR . After the art institute was opened, he became head of the composition department in 1974 and held this position until his death. In 1974 he received the State Prize of the Kyrgyz SSR after Toktogul Satylganov , and he was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR . In 1962, 1965 and 1967 Abdrajew became a member of the city council in Frunze and in 1967 and 1975 a member of the Supreme Soviet of the Kyrgyz SSR. After his death in 1979, a music school in Frunze was named after him in 1980.

Mukasch Abdrajew wrote four operas. He was a pioneer of Kyrgyz opera. His works influenced the development of Kyrgyz music culture significantly.
