Munch'ŏn-shi ( 문천 시 ; 文 川 市 ) is a city in Kangwŏn-do Province in North Korea . It has 122,934 inhabitants (as of 2008), 57,071 of whom lived in urban regions. It is an industrial city north of Wonsan on the Sea of ​​Japan .

economy

Fishing, fruit and livestock are the main industries in the region. Grain is the most important agricultural product. Munch'ŏn has reserves of zinc, gold, silver, limestone, dolomite, granite and clay. Anthracite is also produced. The city is a center of steel and paint production.

Munch'ŏn is on the Kangwŏn Line of the Korean State Railways .
