Kangwon-do is a province in North Korea . It is located in the southeast of North Korea , the capital is Wŏnsan .
geography
Kangwon-do forms the smaller part of the former Gangwon-do province, which is now divided by the demilitarized zone . Gangwon-do is also the name of the South Korean province south of the DMZ . The province is also bordered by Hwanghae-pukto to the west, P'yŏngan-namdo and Hamgyŏng-namdo to the northwest and north, and the Sea of Japan to the east . In the southeast is the separately administered tourist region Kŭmgang-san .
Administrative division
The province of Kangwon-do in North Korea is divided into two cities and 15 counties. In 2002 , parts of the districts of Kos Tng and Tongch'ŏn were detached from the province of Kangwŏn-do and the Kregionmgang-san tourist region was formed from them.
