Hwanghae-pukto (Hwanghae-North) is a province in North Korea . It was created in 1954 when the former Hwanghae-do province was divided into the two provinces of Hwanghae-pukto and Hwanghae-namdo . The provincial capital is Sariwon .
geography
The province borders in the east on Kangwŏn-do , in the north on P'yŏngan-namdo and Pyongyang , in the west on the Yellow Sea , in the southeast on Hwanghae-namdo and in the south on the industrial area Kaesŏng , a special administrative region of North Korea.
Administrative division
The province of Hwanghae-pukto is divided into three cities and 16 counties. In 2003, the districts of Changp'pung-gun and Kaep'ung-gun, and the city of Kaesŏng were incorporated into Hwanghae-pukto. Previously, these administrative units belonged to the special administrative region Kaesŏng, which was then dissolved. Its remaining parts, including part of the city of Kaesŏng, now form the special administrative region of the Kaesŏng industrial area .

economy
The province is supplied with electricity by the Pukchang coal-fired power station in the neighboring province of P'yŏngan-namdo .
