P'yŏngan-pukto (North P'yŏngan) is a province in North Korea . It was created in 1896 as a result of the division of the province of P'yŏngan-do into P'yŏngan-pukto and P'yŏngan-namdo . In 1949 , Chagang-do Province was split off. The capital of the province is Sinŭiju-shi .
geography
The province borders in the southwest on the Yellow Sea , in the northwest on the People's Republic of China and Special Administrative Region Sinŭiju , in the northeast on Chagang-do and in the southeast on P'yŏngan-namdo .
Administrative division
The province of P'yŏngan-pukto is divided into three cities and 22 counties. In 2002 , parts of the city of Sinŭiju and parts of the districts of Ch'ŏlsan, Ŭichu and Yŏmchu were separated from the province, forming the Special Administrative Region of Sinŭiju.
