T'aech'ŏn-gun , also Thaechon , is a district in the center of North Pyongan Province , North Korea . It borders Taegwan and Tongchang in the north, Unsan and Nyongbyon in the east, Pakchon and Unjon in the south, and Kusong in the west.
nature
Mountains are scattered across the county, with the Pinandok Mountains rising to the east. The highest is the Paegundoksan ( 백운 덕산 , 868 m), with the highest point in the district of Samgaksan ( 삼각산 , 936 m) in the north. The district is traversed by the Taeryong River and its tributaries, such as the Chonbang and Chang Rivers.
climate
The mean annual temperature is 8.5 ° C, with a January mean of −10 ° C and an August mean of 23.8 ° C. The annual rainfall is 1338 mm. On average there are 40 foggy days per year.
economy
Around 64% of the district are forest and 30% are cultivated. Corn, rice, tobacco and vegetables are grown. Taechon is the provincial leader in maize production. In addition, various animals are kept such as silkworms , rabbits, cattle and pigs. There are numerous deposits of gold and graphite. The Chongnyon-Palwon Railway between Kusong and Kujang runs through the county.
The Taechon Technical School ( 태천 전문 학교 ) is one of the educational institutions in Taechon .
The construction of the T'aech'ŏn nuclear facility was stopped in 1994 in accordance with the Geneva Framework Agreement .
