Adalbert Stengler

Adalbert (Albert) Stengler (born February 5, 1850 in Würzburg , † November 1, 1910 in Munich ) was a German hydraulic engineer and pioneer of torrent control.

Life

Adalbert Stengler attended the Royal High School in Würzburg. He then studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich . In 1869 he became a member of the Corps Vitruvia Munich. After completing his studies, he entered the civil service as a hydraulic engineer and initially became a building authority assessor in Augsburg . In 1888 he was promoted to construction officer at the road and river construction office in Kempten (Allgäu) . In 1902 he was promoted to government and district building council. In 1904 he was promoted to the supreme building authority in the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, for Construction and Transport in Munich. In 1909 he was promoted to Ministerial Council there.

Since his transfer to Kempten, Stengler has systematically and comprehensively worked on the torrent control in the Allgäu and the correction of the river Iller and its inlets. Through his work, he gained professional recognition not only in Germany, but also in the neighboring Alpine countries. His building principles, which were formulated up to 1902, are still valid today.

In 1908 Stengler was one of the jurors in a competition to create detailed designs for the generation of water power on Lake Walchensee .
