Hwanghae-do was a Korean province in the center of the country. It was founded in 1395 and divided into Hwanghae-pukto and Hwanghae-namdo in 1954 . Their capital was Haeju . Hwanghae bordered P'yŏngan (after 1896 P'yŏngan-namdo ) in the north, Kangwŏn-do in the east, Gyeonggi-do in the south and the Yellow Sea in the west.
