Chungcheong-do

Chungcheong-do was one of eight provinces in Korea during the Joseon Dynasty . It was founded in 1413 and split into what is now Chungcheongbuk-do and Chungcheongnam-do in 1896 . In the north the province bordered the province of Gyeonggi-do , in the east on Gangwon-do and Gyeongsang-do , in the south on the province Jeolla-do and in the west on the yellow sea . The capital was Gongju . The name was formed from the names of the cities of Chungju and Cheongju .
