Munich Guitars

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Munich Guitars is a guitar ensemble from Munich . It is directed by the guitarist and composer Walter Abt.

history

In 1987, Abt founded the Munich Guitar Orchestra in an ensemble of 10 young competition prize winners and committed plucking musicians. Only a few, qualitatively appealing original works were available. In this way, arrangements were initially made mainly from Spanish literature. Composers such as Gianfranco Grisi , Leo Brouwer , Heinz Benker , etc. a., dedicated their works to the 10-piece guitar ensemble, which were recorded and produced by Bayerischer Rundfunk and KOCH-Classics. Many concert tours followed in cooperation with the Goethe Institute in Europe . Under the direction of Abts, the ensemble won first prize at the Bavarian Orchestra Competition and the German Orchestra Competition of the German Music Council in 1992 , as well as a special prize for the outstanding interpretation of contemporary music.
