Munir Mangal

Munir Mangal (born 1950 in the Tsamkani District of Paktia Province , Afghanistan ; died May 2, 2020 in Kabul ) was an Afghan general and politician. Most recently, in 2016, he was Deputy Minister of the Interior, in command of the National Police .

Life

He attended elementary school and military school in Kabul. Then he studied military affairs in the Soviet Union . In 1972 he began his military career as a lieutenant in an artillery - Division in the Kabul area. He climbed the ranks, always in the service of whoever ruled Kabul. After the Americans captured Kabul during the war in Afghanistan in 2001 , he initially worked as a corps commander in order to rebuild the Afghan army . As the commander of the National Police, he was in command of the fight against the Taliban . In 2010 he was temporarily appointed Minister of the Interior. In 2016 Mangal retired.

He died on May 2, 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic in his house in Kabul as a result of a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
