CS Mureşul Târgu Mureş was a Romanian football club from Târgu Mureş . He played one season in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A , and was twice in the semi-finals of the Romanian football championship .

history

Mureșul Târgu Mureș (named after the Mureș river on which Târgu Mureș is located) was founded in 1921 under the name SS Mureșul Târgu Mureș ( German : Sports Club Mureș ). In 1923 he teamed up with local rivals CFR Târgu Mureș , the railway workers ' sports club , and changed his name to CFR Mureșul Târgu Mureș . A year later, the club won the district championship of Târgu Mureș and qualified for the finals for the Romanian championship . After victories against Șoimii Sibiu and Venus Bucharest , Mureșul reached the semi-finals, but lost there to the later champions and most successful Romanian club of the 1920s, Chinezul Timișoara , with 0: 9.

In the further course of 1924, the club changed its name and called itself from then on CS Mureșul Târgu Mureș (German: Sportklub Mureș ). In the following years Mureșul no longer succeeded in winning the district championship. The district of Târgu Mureş was dissolved and slammed into another area. It was not until 1932 that Mureșul was able to win the championship of the newly created area in the middle and again qualify for the finals . As eight years earlier, the club moved into the semi-finals after beating Crișana Oradea , but lost 8-2 to the reigning champions UDR Reșița .

Despite this success, Mureșul was not one of the founding members of the Romanian professional league Divizia A, which was launched in 1932 . The club was only accepted in the 1933/34 season , but was immediately relegated. In season 1934/35 he played in the newly formed Divizia B . There he tried in vain to return to Divizia A in the following years. In 1939, the club was able to win the North-West season, but was defeated in the promotion games Gloria CFR Galați . After another year in Divizia B, Mureșul finally broke up at the beginning of the Second World War .

In 1944 Romanian railway workers founded a new club under the name ASM Târgu Mureș to allow the best players in the city to compete together.

Start-up

In 1960, CS Târgu Mureş (emerged from ASM Târgu Mureş) and Voința Târgu Mureş merged to form a new club CS Mureşul Târgu Mureş . This played for four years in Divizia B before he joined AS Armata Târgu Mureș in August 1964 .
