The Murovdağ ( Azerbaijani ; Armenian Մռավի լեռնաշղթա ; Russian Муровдаг Murowdag ) is the highest mountain range in the Lesser Caucasus .
The Murovdağ is located east of Lake Sevan and extends over a length of 70 km in a west-east direction. It is located in the west of Azerbaijan and forms the de facto border between the Azerbaijani-controlled area and the territory of the internationally unrecognized Republic of Artsakh . Its western end is on the border with Armenia . There it borders on the Sewan Mountains . The river Tərtər flows along the southern flank of Murovdağ in an easterly direction. The Kura lowlands extend to the north and east . The city of Gəncə (formerly Kirowabad ) lies at the foot of the northern foothills. The highest peak is the 3724 m high Gamış dağı ( ⊙ ).
The mountain range consists mainly of rock layers of volcanic sediments. The Murovdağ ridge has rocky ridges and deep canyons. The landscape is dominated by mountain forests. In the foothills there are mountain forests and mountain steppes.
