The Sevan Mountains ( Armenian Սևանի լեռնաշղթա ; Azerbaijani Şahdağ silsiləsi ; Russian Севанский / Шахдагский хребет , Schachdag ) is a mountain range in the Lesser Caucasus .
The Sevan Mountains run along the northeastern shore of Lake Sevan on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan . It extends in NW-SE direction over a length of about 70 km. To the northeast it slopes down to the Kura lowland . In the east it borders the Murovdağ and the Eastern Sevan Mountains . In the west, the mountain range continues in the Murgus Mountains . In the extreme east, the mountain range reaches a maximum height of 3367 m . The mountain range consists mainly of volcanic rock and sandstone . Deciduous forest grows on the northern slope . The mountain steppe landscape dominates in the south . Alpine vegetation thrives in the summit regions.
