Brentano House in Günzburg

The Brentano house in Günzburg , a town in the Swabian district of Günzburg , was built in 1747. The building at Marktplatz 8 is a protected architectural monument .

history

Until the city fire in 1735, two buildings stood here. The trading company Brentano-Monticelli & Co. bought both properties and had a representative city palace built in 1747 . After the business of the trading house in Günzburg no longer flourished, in 1758 the company sold the property for 11,000 florins to the Institute of the English Misses , which ran a girls' school in the building until 1825. A chapel was set up on the first floor around 1766. After 1825 a wine shop was set up in the house, which was run by different owners until 1938. In 1938 the Sparkasse Günzburg bought the building and set up a branch in it, which still exists today.

description

Merkurkopf from 1939

The three-storey, pilaster- structured building with a mansard hipped roof has a flat central risalit . A curved gable and a richly stuccoed facade can be seen on the street side . The interior of the house was heavily changed by several renovations in the 20th century. The Gilardi House in Allersberg , which was built by Gabriel de Gabrieli from 1723 to 1728 , may have served as a model for this building .
