The Murphy Range is a mountainous country in Queensland , Australia . The hill country is about 420 kilometers west of Brisbane , about 44 kilometers from Taroom and about 76 kilometers from Theodore . The range rises to 404 meters above sea level. Not far from the Murphy Range is Lake Murphy .
The name goes back to the Prussian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt , who invaded this area at the end of 1844. He chose the name of fifteen-year-old John Murphy, a participant in his first expedition to Australia from 1844 to 1845.
