The Murphy Wall comprises a series of up to 905 m high mountains with north-south orientation on the north coast of South Georgia . They stretch like a rock wall along the western flank of the Grace Glacier .
The South Georgia Survey conducted surveys during its 1951–1957 campaign. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named the mountain range in 1958 after the American ornithologist Robert Cushman Murphy (1887-1973), who had made observations and collections in the nearby Bay of Isles from 1912 to 1913 for the American Museum of Natural History .
