Murray de Vere Beauclerk, 14th Duke of St. Albans (born January 19, 1939 ), known from 1964 to 1988 under his courtesy title Earl of Burford , is a British peer and politician of the Conservative Party .

life and career

He is the eldest son of Charles Beauclerk, 13th Duke of St. Albans (1915–1988) from his first marriage to Nathalie Chatham Walker. He is a descendant of King Charles II through his illegitimate son Charles Beauclerk, 1st Duke of St. Albans . He attended the Tonbridge School in Kent .

When his father died in 1988, he inherited his title of nobility, including the associated seat in the House of Lords . In November 1999, when the House of Lords Act came into force, he lost his hereditary seat in parliament.

Since 1989 he has been Governor-General of the Royal Stuart Society .

family

His first marriage was on January 31, 1963, Rosemary Frances Scoones (* October / December 1941 in Romford ), daughter of Francis Harold Scoones (1915-2004) and his wife Rose Frances Callis (* 1909). The marriage was divorced in 1974. You have two children:

In his second marriage, he married Cynthia Theresa Mary Howard on August 29, 1974 (* March 23, 1928; † May 12, 2002). In 2001 the divorce took place.

On December 14, 2002, he married his current wife, Gillian Anita Northam, in London.
